The Svend Skipper “Papa Bear” chair, sometimes referred to as the “Teddy Bear” chair, is stylistically very similar to Hans Wegner’s Papa Bear chair. Vintage Wegner Papa Bear chairs can go for as much as $20,000 and reproductions for around $3,000. Because they aren’t the Papa Bear chair, Skipper’s version, produced in 1954 by Skippers Møbelindustri has the same dramatic attributes without the lofty price tag.
On our trip to Denmark earlier this year, we were fortunate enough to find a Skipper “Papa Bear” chair in an old Danish barn. He’s now sitting in the shop, waiting for a home and new upholstery. Skipper’s chair can easily be recovered to fit any decor. Take a look at some fabulous (and questionable) upholstery jobs done by others!
This beautiful chair has been reupholstered in a two-tone fabric with buttons and pleats. If you need a distracting chair, this is it!
Clean and simple grey wool with buttons and piping.
This classic crimson follows the pattern of the original upholstery as our chair in our shop.
For the adventurous chair-sitter, pony hair and brass studs.
One of our favorite upholstery options, this original funky vintage green wool highlights the chair without outshining it.
